Mock Child Municipal Assembly

Mock Child Municipal Assembly

From 19–22 April 2026, Consortium Nepal, in coordination with Suryabinayak Municipality, CWISH Nepal, and the Municipal Child Club Network of Suryabinayak Municipality, organized a four-day Mock Municipal Assembly for 56 child representatives from all ten wards of Suryabinayak Municipality.

The program equipped children with practical knowledge of child rights, democratic processes, and municipal governance through interactive learning, a simulated municipal election, and a mock assembly. Participants assumed the roles of Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Ward Chairs, and other municipal representatives, where they debated local issues, developed priorities, and presented a mock budget proposal.

The final simulation was attended by municipal officials, including Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Chief Administrative Officer and ward chairs who praised the children’s leadership and meaningful recommendations. The initiative strengthened children’s understanding of local governance, enhanced their leadership and public speaking skills, and demonstrated the value of meaningful child participation in local decision-making.
